For millennia, glassblowing has been woven into Egypt’s rich cultural heritage. The earliest traces of glass-like material, unearthed in the Dahshur region, were crafted into mosaics and beads, testaments to ancient artistry. Today, Cairo’s glassblowers continue this legacy with a modern, sustainable twist. They collect discarded bottles from across the city, meticulously washing, sorting, and breaking them before melting the fragments in kilns blazing at 1500 degrees Celsius.
